Last summer, I quietly navigated the unexpected passing of my father in the middle of one of the most demanding times of my professional life.
While in Mexico for my birthday last Nov, I decided to take some of the money he gifted me to make an investment I’ve wanted for years: A laser engraver.
Honestly, it was a bold move and I wasn’t sure what the heck I would create. I just knew I WOULD. Step 1 – buy. Step 2 – Set up. Step 3 – figure it out.
And that’s what I’ve been doing for the last few weeks. Trial and error. Testing. Failing and getting feedback.
Yesterday, I tested a new material; stone tile remnants with our Spiritual Hooligan logo. I burst into tears when I saw the results.
It felt like a metaphor for my life. Get inspired. Set the conditions. Take action. Learn. Adjust. Keep going.
I am sure my dad is somewhere grinning from ear to ear at how this is all turning out.
He loved me, he loved Matthew and he loved the work we’ve dedicated our lives to.
My dad was a Spiritual Hooligan, a creative and a dreamer. He died unfinished, with lists and ideas and things to do. He literally could not stop the creative force coming through him. And neither can I.
Today I hope you take a step towards whatever is inspiring you.
Onward.
